A Stock Ticker for Your Smart TV

Home / Guides / A Stock Ticker for Your Smart TV

A stock ticker used to be a thing on the wall of a brokerage. On a smart TV it can be a thing in your living room: a tape of prices scrolling across the bottom of the screen, and a stream of charts and headlines above it.

What a TV stock ticker should do

  • Show your stocks first, then the indexes and the market.
  • Run on its own, with no remote needed once it is set up.
  • Be readable from across the room, in a layout built for a TV rather than shrunk from a phone.
  • Be easy to change from your phone, because typing on a TV is miserable.

How MarketCast does it

MarketCast has a ticker tape you can customize (a Premium feature) and a Stream that cycles through prices, charts and headlines automatically. Your stocks sit on the Home screen as a dashboard, and you add or change them by scanning a QR code from your phone. Charts run from one day to five years.

Premium adds real-time stock prices, crypto around the clock, and scenes such as the Stock Wall, which shows the whole S&P 500 at once.

Which TVs it works on

MarketCast runs on Fire TV, Google TV and Android TV, and Apple TV. If your TV's built-in system is something else, the simplest fix is to plug in a streaming device. See the supported devices for the specific sticks, boxes and TVs.

Common questions

Can I change the ticker tape?

Customizing the ticker tape is part of Premium. The free app shows a ticker tape, including forex.

How do I add stocks?

Scan the QR code shown on the TV with your phone and add your stocks there, or search with the remote.

Does it need to stay on?

It is designed to run on its own on a TV that stays on, but you can open and close it whenever you like.
